Micron Releases World’s First 1.5TB microSD Card and Automotive Functional Safety Certified Memory

Micron Technology has announced the extension of its product line as well as collaboration with its partners. The firm is also giving clients samples of the i400, it hits a huge density of 1.5TB. The 1.5TB Micro SD card, a first for Micron, includes the first 176-layer 3D NAND in the world. It is perfect for industrial-grade video security.

Micron is expanding its Industrial Quotient (IQ) Partner Program to include new partners. The aim is to do  better serve the industrial market with its high-performance, robust solutions.  Additionally, Micron announced that it has received the first ISO 26262 ASIL D certification of memory. This certification means its low-power double data achieve rate 5 (LPDDR5) DRAM. Moreover, it is replying on its first-to-market 1-alpha process node.

The world’s first 1.5TB micro SD card i400

The i400 offers industrial storage for AI-enhanced video applications. These applications including corporate fleet dash cameras, smart home security, police body cameras, and AI-enabled cameras in factories. All of them need storage that can handle rich media data. The Micron i400 is one of the largest capacity microSD card in the market. It is perfect for video storage at the edge and hybrid VSaaS deployments.

Users may optimize data stored in the cloud thanks to the enormous 1.5TB Micro SD card. It can locally store 120 days or 4 months’ worth of video-safe media. Small enterprises and remote locations with low bandwidth requirements can frequently upload data to the cloud for backup. Such as cargo ships and oil rigs, are depending on i400 storage at the edge for day-to-day operations. Smart cameras are able to do real-time AI analytics. Meanwhile, it can make decisions more quickly by moving primary storage to the edge. For crucial law enforcement, public health, or safety judgments, this speed is particularly important.

The i400 is perfect for video security environments. In contrast to the majority of consumer-grade cards on the market, it has capabilities like:

– Five years of excellent ongoing 24/7 recording

– Able to simultaneously process 4K video recordings and up to 8 AI events per second. such as object identification and categorization like license plates or facial recognition

– 2,000,000 hours Mean Time to Fail

Micron is sampling the i400 to customers. It is including Verkada, a cloud-managed enterprise building-security provider. Verkada protects over 12,000 organizations, including 43 of the Fortune 500. With its intelligent cameras, it can enhance safety to address the spike in anti-Asian hate crimes. The crimes had risen by 339% in the U.S. last year.

Micron receives world’s first LPDDR5 ISO 26262 ASIL-D certification

With over 100 million lines of code, ADAS-enabled automobiles may now challenge data center computing. The market for car memory will increase from $3.3 billion last year to about $15 billion in 2026. To dependably support safety-critical applications like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind spot recognition, trusted high-performance memory is necessary. Additionally, it is essential for enabling ADAS technologies that supports autonomous shared mobility, 4D digital imaging radar and hand-free experience. This will pave the way for fully Level 5 autonomous driving.

In order to satisfy these demands, Micron’s automotive LPDDR5 memory has been granted the esteemed exida certification and has attained the most exacting safety integrity level ASIL D stipulated by ISO 26262. Because of LPDDR5’s high performance, high power, and low latency, it can accommodate the rising bandwidth needs of future automotive systems.

The performance highlights of Micron’s LPDDR5, which is now being mass produced in densities of 48GB and 96GB, are as follows:

– To enable the vehicle to react and respond intelligently, proprietary on-chip safety features have the capacity to identify and notify the system of random and systematic hardware failures.

– Data access speed is increased by 50%, enabling near-instantaneous decision-making from multiple sensors and inputs in smart vehicles, such as radar, lidar, high-resolution imaging, 5G networks, and optical image recognition.

– Power efficiency has increased by more than 30%, minimizing the power consumption of electric and conventional vehicles, allowing for greener, longer-distance transportation and lower emissions.

These certifications follow Micron’s 2021 milestone of sampling the industry’s first LPDDR5 hardware-evaluated to meet ASIL-D suitability requirements and of establishing an office of functional safety. The office is dedicated to collaborating with customers on the memory requirements of designing safe automotive systems through Micron labs in Munich, Detroit, Shanghai, Tokyo and beyond.
